EcoStudy Programs & Dolittle Farm
Children have a natural curiosity about the world around them. At Camp Creek Run, we harness this wonder to teach campers about the local ecology through hands-on activities that engage all of their senses.

Through many positive, fun, free-range, and focused educational experiences in the outdoors, campers will gain an understanding of the rhythms of nature and the intricate relationships between other living things. We believe that instilling a respect and understanding of the natural world fosters a child’s connection to community and other human beings.

A few of the natural history investigations that are offered include aquatic, forest, and wildlife ecology; tree identification; birding; fishing & fish Identification; gardening for pollinators & wildlife; nature observation & journaling; fungi forays; life cycles; entomology; and animal tracks & signs.

Our camp’s EcoCenter is a nature center equipped with microscopes, natural science materials, and local field study guides. After exploring the woods, fields, and streams in search of leaves, grasses, insects, and other natural objects, campers can spend time with their counselors in the EcoCenter identifying and learning about their discoveries.

​

Campers will also have opportunities to visit Dolittle Farm, our small farm sanctuary, to water and pick vegetables in our organic garden, observe insects in our pollinator garden, learn about animal husbandry, and spend time with the domestic animals that call Dolittle Farm their home. 

Fishing & Boating
Our lake is stream and spring fed with a sandy bottom and beach. The depth is 0 to 6 feet. The primary activities for the lake are paddleboating, canoeing, and fishing. Campers wear lifejackets at all times in boats, and are supervised by a lifeguard and adult counselors. Lower Campers may paddleboat or canoe with their counselors, and Upper Campers who have passed a swim test may use the paddleboats independently for supervised boating. Upper Campers are welcome to bring fishing poles with UNBARBED hooks for fishing during free choice activities.  Lower Campers may have the opportunity to fish on Fridays as their schedule allows.

Creative Arts Program
Our creative arts program provides multiple opportunities for individual expression. It is designed to inspire the artist in every child, and to help campers achieve personal and artistic growth regardless of age or ability. Our arts & crafts director engages campers in activities such as mask-making, traditional camp crafts, painting, pottery, and jewelry making. Our music director inspires campers through activities that include singing, dancing, playing instruments, music appreciation, and writing songs and cheers. Lower Campers have arts & crafts and music as a part of their day-to-day schedule, and Upper Campers may choose creative arts in the afternoons.

Swimming & Water Sports
Each day, campers have swim instruction, recreational swimming, and pool games in our in-ground pools.  Campers entering K - 3rd grade have instructional swimming by our Red Cross certified lifeguards that focus on gaining confidence in the water, learning swim strokes, and building on strengths. Campers entering grades 4 and up have pool games offered by our lifeguards that focus on swimming endurance and building skills.  All campers from K - 8 grade have recreational (free) swim also as a part of their daily schedule. 

Field Sports & Games
We offer a structured sports program, supervised by our sports directors. Our program focuses on developing cooperation, problem solving, trust, and self-esteem to build strong individuals and strong groups. Our counselors create a supportive and judgment-free atmosphere where individuals and groups are able to challenge themselves and learn through their experiences.

To achieve these goals, we offer varied sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, and kickball; outdoor education activities such as canoeing basics, hiking, archery, and orienteering; and cooperative & traditional camp games that give every camper a chance to excel.
