Week One 2020

July 19, 2020

Hello parents and campers! Welcome to the first edition of the 2020 on-line Trail Talk, Camp Creek Run’s summer camp newsletter. We had a fun-filled week and we hope you did too!

It has been so great to see so many returning staff and campers this summer!

We are proud to be able to share Camp Creek Run with all of our families even through all of the trying times that everyone is experiencing. We are taking all of the precautions that we as a staff are capable of in an outdoor environment. We want all parents and guardians to know that we are going above state standards for safety every day in the service of our tribe.

This week we have been getting the campers accustomed to the new protocols for socially distanced and masked activities. The kids are doing very well and we hope that all of our calls for "airplane arms and a little more" will become second nature. Although social distancing and masks are not required in our smaller groups (or "pods") that don't mix with other groups, we are following the same social distancing protocols that have been mandated by the State of NJ for public spaces, and likely the same protocols that will be used by schools when they go back into session this fall.  We know that our camper's summer camp experience with these protocols will help prepare them for the coming months, just like summer camp in general helps prepare kids for life!

All of the six villages rotate around the camp on a six period schedule. None of the groups interact with other groups, as recommended by the state of NJ and the CDC, to keep contact with those outside of their "pods" to a minimum. We have arts and crafts, sports and games, pools (twice a day!), waterfront activities (boating, fishing, newcomb, and playing on the beach), and camper counselor choices every day. (which include gaga, nature study, farm, time on the playgrounds, and more!). Although we don't have choice activities in the afternoon this summer (to prevent groups of children from mixing), we've been able to make sure that the campers still have many of these activities as a part of their daily schedule.

We are busy!

This summer, we are going to display pictures and video on smugmug.com. We invite families to access the images and download them. Downloading video is new for us and we hope everyone will enjoy this expanded service. Please click on this link and use the same password we sent you in our email, which is the same password you used this summer to access the Parent/Guardian forum on our website.  Let us know if you'd like us to send you the password again by sending us an email.

We are very excited for the summer and hope that all of our families are well and enjoying the outdoors!

Talk to you soon!

Camp Directors Keara & Neil
